Moving
to the United States in 2001, meant that I had to leave my precious
and dear Siamese friends. Still I want his page to be a part
of our web site. Leaving Amon & Re was the hardest thing
I ever had to do in my life and they know that I will never
forget them, or stop loving them. They will always be my sweet
boys...
These sleeping beauties have had a very rough time! When the
last of my five cats died early 1998, I went to a nearby animal
shelter where I noticed these Siamese twins. They were badly
treated in their former home and in a very poor condition.
Because
of their age, they were approximately 10 years old, it was almost
impossible for the animal shelter to provide them with a home.
On top of all this, one of them proved to be blind!
They
stole my heart at once. Because I think every living creature
has a right to a normal happy life, there was no doubt for me
at all. They found a home again!
New
names were needed, for their real ones were unknown. After giving
it some thought I chose for them: "Amon" and "Re".
In my opinion names are a source of power and I hoped that these
names from ancient Egypt, which refer to the sacred Sun, would
give them strength.
As
you can see in the pictures, they are happy and content now,
and in a perfect condition!
Re's goodbye...
On
Tuesday, April 2, 2002 - early in the morning - I received a
very disturbing phone call from the Netherlands: my sweet friend
Re had been put to sleep!
Besides
his thyroid tumor he developed a severe diabetes problem and
due to the bad condition he was in, it was best for him to
put an end to his suffering. He died peacefully and quickly
at home about 3:15 p.m. local time. He was only 14 years old.
I know that Re's spirit is very close and that he is happy
in the place where he is now. His sweet blind eyes are finally
able to see again and I can feel that Love is surrounding
him. He deserves it!
The world won't be the same without my sweet Re and his buddy
Amon will not be the only one missing him terribly...
Amon's
goodbye...
On
Friday, March 19, 2004, around 3:15 p.m. in the Netherlands,
my long time friend and dear companion Amon was put to sleep. It
happened almost 2 years after his brother Re had left us.
Although
his health deteriorated very quickly the past few months,
there were no earlier signs that his kidney problem would
become acute. Late on March 18 it suddenly did and the only
thing the vet could do for my little friend, was release
him from his suffering. Amon died peacefully and quickly
at home, just like Re. He was 16 years old.
Finally the two brothers are united again. What a happy
thought! They were always very dependent of one another
and Re especially needed his brother Amon to be his eyes.
They so loved to spend countless hours sleeping, huddled
together on a pillow. Now they can enjoy that closeness
again.
Although I feel very sad of what happened, my main emotion
is happiness. Happiness to know that the last years of their
lives have been wonderful. I can only hope it made up for
their sad past.
Goodbye, my sweet friends! I know we will meet again...
